PRAYER ALERT – Amy Coney Barrett Nominated to Supreme Court

President Trump finalizes his choice from short list of candidates.

President Donald Trump has announced his nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, a judge on the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, to the United States Supreme Court. This nomination seeks to fill the open seat left by the passing of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Judge Barrett is a constitutional scholar and self-described originalist. She is a member of the American Law Institute.

Judge Barrett clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in the late 90s and has a similar judicial philosophy to her late employer. She earned her Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School, graduating summa cum laude.

Judge Barrett was nominated to her current circuit court seat by President Trump in May of 2017. She was confirmed by the Senate on October 31 of that year. Her faith as a Catholic was a focus during the confirmation hearings and is expected to be a main topic of discussion during this current nomination. Vice President Mike Pence has said that he considers Barrett’s strong religious values an asset, rather than a liability, and said objections are evidence that some are harboring “intolerance… about her Catholic faith.”

Judge Barrett is married to fellow Notre Dame Law graduate Jessie M. Barrett. They reside in Indiana with their seven children. Two of their children were adopted from Haiti, and their youngest biological child has special needs.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Judge Amy Coney Barrett and her family as she prepares for the Supreme Court confirmation process.
  • For the Senate Judiciary Committee and the entire U.S. Senate as her nomination is evaluated.
  • For God’s will to be accomplished in the three branches of U.S. government.
